William Lewis Frederick
Biography
Bill Frederick was born in 1957 in Chicago, where he still resides. He attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is included in museum, corporate, and private collections.
Drawn from imagination, photography, and personal observation, his junk-food-and-caffeine-fueled paintings reflect his interest in art as an expressive response to experience. He uses the simple materials of brush, ink, watercolor, and paper. His intensely rendered realist paintings reflect his preoccupations with friends and family, history, geography, and a nagging sense of dread.
"The mimicking or echoing of experience is universal among people, and appears to be a necessary way in which we understand and constructively cope with life. This seems the essential element of art."
